On the 20th August 2021 a planning application was submitted by Sherbourne Priors to lop and fell several yew trees bordering Vicarage Lane.
The application sites the access point to Sherbourne Priors as a driveway, which it is not, and is somewhat misleading on the application. These trees are also within the conservation area and removing them, and/or severely lopping them, would change the historical and visual aspect of the village.
The trees also provide habitats for local wildlife, several of which are protected species, such as hedgehogs and bats, and to a degree they also provide some level of noise and air pollution protection for the village, which is surrounded by heavily trafficked roads.
Some building materials have already started being stored in this area of woodland, removal or lopping of trees would not only further damage the habitat, but also open it up for further storage or development in the future – a move that would be detrimental to wildlife, natural habitat and the history and visual aesthetic of the village.
